Made famous by the movie “Out of Africa” East Africa offers diversity second to none. From sweeping plains, hills, valleys and craters to massive lakes and large concentrations of animals. This is Kenya and Tanzania. This month we feature two top Any Beyond properties in Kenya’s Masai Mara and Tanzania's Ngorongoro Crater.

Ngorongoro Crater (Tanzania)

Ngorongoro Crater Lodge: 30 deluxe rooms
This lodge has commanding views of the crater floor. It introduces a new level of sophistication to Tanzania in accommodation and service standards.

It has been called the game lodge at the end of the world and, between the spectacular views swirling through mists around the Ngorongoro Crater Lodge and its somewhat unexpected architecture, it is easy to believe that you have entered a realm of pure fantasy. Steeped in romance, each stilted, handcrafted mud and thatch suite is adorned with graceful antiques. Ensuite bathrooms, with a centrepiece of fresh roses, feature huge showers and chandelier-lit bathtubs, while floor-to-ceiling windows ensure breathtaking views from everywhere.

Guests can be forgiven for losing track of which era, or even continent, they are experiencing at Ngorongoro Crater Lodge.

Nowhere else on earth can you wake up among all the trappings of an elegant baroque chateau - brocade sofas, gilt mirrors, beaded chandeliers and panelled walls - and be instantly transported into one of the most famous African landscapes with just one glance out the window of the lodge.

In this place of dramatic contrasts, where Versailles meets Maasai, anything is possible and the natural luxury of the breathtakingly beautiful setting ensures the dramatic interior of your suite blends perfectly with its stilted thatch architecture.
