Johannesburg to Cape Town

Day 1: Johannesburg/Pretoria/Soweto
After collection from the airport or your hotel, you will be met upon arrival and transferred to the train. Please note that you should arrive no later than 08:00 at the airport in order to participate in the day’s excursions.

Gauteng is the economic powerhouse of the Southern African region and home to some of Africa’s greatest cities. The name of the province derives from the Sotho word meaning “Place of Gold”, which is very suitable since much of the wealth of Gauteng has come from this precious metal.

Day 2: Panorama Route/ Kruger National Park
Awake to the spectacular view of the Eastern Transvaal escarpment. Explore the endless cascade of mountains, forests and waterfalls. Panoramic highlights include – God’s Window, Mac Mac Falls and Bourke’s Luck.

Day 3: Kruger National Park
Today we visit the world famous Kruger National Park – home to the big five – lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and elephant. A full day game drive with the opportunity to see a variety of wildlife.

Day 4: Day On The Train to KwaZulu-Natal
Guests spend the day relaxing on the train going through the countryside of Mpumalanga, Gauteng, Free State and KwaZulu–Natal. Brunch, high tea and dinner will be served on the train this day.

The train arrives in Durban that evening and stables for the night. Guests leave the next morning for Hluhluwe.

Day 5: Northern Zululand
Today we visit the Hluhluwe and Umfolozi Game Reserve – world renowned for rhino conservation and home to all of the Big five. Or visit the St Lucia Nature and Marine Reserve for a boat ride up the river estuary.

Day 6: Southern Zululand
Come face to face with the mighty Zulu, the people of the sky. Visit a Zulu culture centre, the battlefields, basket weaving factory and enjoy some Zulu dancing.

Day 7: Midlands/Southern Drakensburg
Guests now head to the eastern jagged peaks called the Drakensberg, follow the waterways as they drop and cascade down mountain clefts, and through hidden valleys and the tumbling luscious hills that extend through the Midlands.

Day 8: Durban
Subtropical playground of South Africa with year round swimming. Visit the city, the spice markets, Hindu and Muslim temples or the Botanical Gardens at Umhlanga.

Day 9: Bloemfontein
Bloemfontein is the seat of the South African judicial system. At the end of the 19th century it was also the capital of one of the old Boer republics, namely the Orange Free State. The Women’s Memorial at the Anglo-Boer War Museum is a reminder of life in the concentration camps and commemorates the 27,000 women and children who died in these camps. Naval Hill presents several beautiful panoramic views of the city.

Day 10: Port Elizabeth/Grahamstown
A visit to the Addo Elephant Park for close encounters with tuskers and other animals. Enjoy a historical city tour of Port Elizabeth or Grahamstown.

Day 11: Klein Karoo
Surrounded by natural beauty, Oudtshoorn is situated at the foot of the majestic Swartberg Mountain range. Numerous rivers, streams and falls have their origins in the Swartberg, Outeniqua and Kammanassie ranges around the town. Oudtshoorn is regarded as the centre of the Klein Karoo and is world-renowned for the Cango Caves and the breeding of Ostriches.

Day 12: Mossel Bay (Garden Route)
Knyna’s picturesque lagoon and forest, gem of the Garden Route. Enjoy the sights and sounds of Knysna including the Garden of Eden and Head of Knysna or visit Plettenberg Bay for dolphin and bird watching.

Day 13: Winelands/Stellenbosch
The romantic mood of the winelands with stretches of vineyards set against a mountainous backdrop. Enjoy an architectural, historical and cultural tour through Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franshhoek or take a wine tasting tour to visit various wine estates.

Day 14 & 15: Cape Town
Spend two days discovering South Africa’s mother City and the scenic surroundings of Cape Peninsular flanked by two oceans and divided by Cape Point and Table Mountain. Enjoy tours to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, Clifton, Hout Bay, Chapman’s Peak, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Table Mountain and the Waterfront.

Day 16: Disembark
After breakfast this morning the tour finishes in Cape Town.
