The routes of The Blue Train – both scheduled and chartered – take guests through some of the most breathtaking countryside to be found anywhere in the world. As the ever-changing scenery flashes past the windows, guests can savour exquisite meals freshly prepared on board by top chefs. Our meals are complemented by the best wines South Africa has to offer.

Day 1: Cape Town

Your remarkable journey aboard this luxurious train begins at around 7:30 in the morning on your day of departure. Just like checking into the finest hotel, you will be asked to check in at the Blue Train Lounge, Cape Town Station. After the formalities guests will be invited to enjoy pre-departure drinks. Once underway, snacks will be served on-board the train.
Boarding the train will start at around 8 am when the trains butlers will usher guests to their suites and a brief but informative suite orientation will be given by the butlers.
The train needs to run to a tight schedule so it will depart at 8:30 am. Guests are free to make themselves familiar with the layout of the train and starting around mid-morning there will be two sittings for brunch.

In the early afternoon, the train will arrive in the small Karoo town of Matjiesfontein, she will be stopped here for about an hour which will give guests the opportunity to enjoy a glass of sherry at the Matjiesfontein bar. The sherry glass engraved with The Blue Train logo is a memento for guests to keep. The Victorian buildings and original nineteenth century London lamp posts impart to the traveller, the uncanny sense of entering a colonial time warp – an oasis suspended in a different age. Please note that this Off train excursion is weather and time dependant.

After our short stop in Matjiesfontein, guests will once again board the train and she will continue on her Northbound course.

High tea and then pre-dinner drinks will be served as the day draws to a close then guests will be invited to dine. Please note that dinner on the blue train is a very elegant affair and gentlemen are requested to wear a jacket and tie and ladies evening wear.
