A day that is precious to Norfolk Islander’s hearts is Anniversary Day, otherwise known as Bounty Day.

Each year on the 8th of June, a celebration takes place in remembrance of the day their Ancestors arrived from Pitcairn Island.

Come and join us on this small group tour to discover the highlights of Norfolk Island and witness Bounty Day, the re-enactment of the original landing at Kingston Pier, the oldest pier in the Southern Hemisphere, by Bounty Mutineer descendants.

Our tour includes 3 x themed dinners along with a variety of day tours plus included car rental allows you time to discover the island at your own pace.

Itinerary

Day 1: Monday 06 June 2022 – Arrive Norfolk and Progressive Dinner
On arrival into Norfolk Island you will be met and transferred to the Governor’s Lodge Resort for 7 nights’ accommodation including breakfast daily.

Governor’s Lodge is a serene retreat of 55 individual units, set in 12 acres of landscaped sub-tropical gardens dotted with majestic Norfolk Pines. Choose from three on-site dining options, a swimming pool and heated spa, and a full service reception to cater to any unexpected need. On our first evening lets join a Progressive Dinner, the perfect way to get a taste of the real Norfolk lifestyle. You will join a group of other Norfolk Island visitors to enjoy a 3 course meal, progressing to different Norfolk Island family homes. Each home has been carefully selected – and each dinner host has a sensational story to tell. You’ll hear all about their family’s history and day to day life. The Progressive Dinner is a fun night and a great way to meet the local people. You will come away with a true insight on life on Norfolk Island and our beautiful people.

Day 2: Tuesday 07 June 2022 – Discover Norfolk, Convict Settlement Tour and Sound and Light show
This morning we join an informative tour to discover Norfolk Island and introduce you to the beauty and diversity of our Island paradise. Our Half Day Orientation Tour is a must for every visitor! On this tour, we take you to some of our key historic areas, including Kingston, Cascade and Longridge. This is your chance to learn all about the fascinating history of Norfolk Island. Take in the amazing views from the lookouts, where you’ll get to enjoy our beautiful beaches in all their glory. Learn about Norfolk Island government, laws and of course our unique lifestyle. Some of the highlights include the renowned Melanesian Chapel and a visit to the grounds of an old island home – where you will be served morning tea.

After lunch today – join us on an in depth tour of the World Heritage Listed Georgian settlement of Kingston. This whole area is a living showcase of Polynesian, convict and Pitcairn Islander history. We take you through the cemetery, where you will hear the history of the colonial headstones, as well as the old houses along Quality Row. You will also walk through the ruins of the New Gaol, see the Pier Store, Boat Shed and the Crank Mill – all of which has to be seen to be believed. Trust us – the only way to truly experience the incredible history of Norfolk Island – is to see it for yourself. Afternoon Tea is included.

After dinner this evening – join us on our Sound and Light Experience. Nightfall at Kingston brings a completely different mood to the Convict Settlement on Norfolk Island.

The stillness and the stars are there just as they were, when the original settlers arrived in 1788. However, with the dramatic use of real-life sounds, theatrical lighting and costumed actors, the stillness is broken as Pinetree Tours takes you through the horrifying decades of Norfolk Island’s convict era. The Sound and Light Show tour is considered a must here. It’s a lot of fun and you’ll come away with a whole new perspective.

Day 3: Wednesday 08 June 2022 – Bounty Day
This morning you will join the Bounty Mutineer descendants as they enact the landing of their forbearers. The landing takes place at the Kingston Pier, the oldest pier in the Southern Hemisphere. Follow the procession of the Bounty Mutineers descendants who will be dressed in period costume to the Cenotaph to pay respects to fallen heroes where hymns are sung. Then it is onto the Cemetery where wreaths are laid, local hymns and the Pitcairn Anthem, (Norfolk Island’s national anthem) are sung. The Bounty Mutineer descendants then make their way to the All Saints Church for the judging of the best dressed families.

You can observe the tradition of the children of the Bounty Mutineers descendants rolling down the Government House hill. Then it’s off to morning tea followed by a traditional Island picnic lunch.

Day 4: Thursday 09 June 2022 – Optional touring – Pitcairn Settlers Village and Island Fish Feast

OPTIONAL: Pitcairn Settlers Village – $55 per person
At lunchtime today we set off on a explore the Pitcairn Settlers Village. Here you’ll experience the proud history of the Pitcairn Island Settlers. Your guided tour will take you through the gracious original Bailey homestead & gardens. Then on to a stroll through the barn, dairy and out-buildings. Wander through the Museum filled with items of nostalgic and historic interest. See the oldest working forge in the Pacific. After that there’s an Ex New Zealand Army hut, with war-time memorabilia. And finally, there’s an exclusive film of Norfolk Island interest and complimentary refreshments.

OPTIONAL: Island Fish Fry $85 per person
This evening join us for a Fish Feast – The Norfolk Island Fish Fry is by far the most popular event for our visitors.. Ask anyone what you need to tick off when you come to Norfolk Island – they’ll say the Island Fish Fry. This fantastic event has been operating for over 40 years. Imagine – a feast of local dishes, salads and homemade coconut bread, alongside mouth-watering fried fish that you won’t forget. Your feast overlooks breathtaking coastal scenery as the sun sets – with live music in the background. The dishes include ‘Pilhi’ (savoury banana Slice,) a special sweet potato mash with local herbs called ‘Ana’, coconut bread and delicious coconut pie and cream for dessert. Your evening is completed by local entertainment from the Baunti Byuutis dancing group, on our exclusive Western Side property ‘Orn Dar Cliff’.

Day 5: Friday 10 June 2022 – Optional – Glass Bottom Boat and Included Night as a Convict Dinner
A leisurely morning.

OPTIONAL: GLASS BOTTOM BOAT – $85 per person
Depart on Christian’s Glass Bottom boat – we will take you on a cruise within the lagoon of Emily and Slaughter Bays. Norfolk Island has the second southernmost coral reef in the world and attracts a diversity of marine life. View beautiful coral gardens as you cruise the crystal-clear pristine waters of the lagoon. There’s also a wide variety of species of colourful fish on display.

This evening join us for some fun – this tour is a highlight for all of our customers. Dress as a convict and join in with the Commandant for an evening of gaiety, feasting, singing, and dancing. We supply the outfit – all you need to do is bring your sense of humour! And prepare yourself for a delicious meal with your new friends. This is Norfolk Island’s only dinner and dance night – and one of our most anticipated events. It’s a great night out for all ages, so the whole family can come and enjoy themselves. *Please note: a $30 deposit is taken for hire of Convict Suit.

Day 6: Saturday 11 June 2022 – Bushwalk Breakfast
Join us on a morning bushwalk and breakfast. This tour caters for everyone and gives you the opportunity to enjoy a walk in the great outdoors, with a delicious breakfast waiting at the end! Take your choice of a stroll through Palm Glen Reserve or for the more energetic, a leisurely 3.5 km walk through scenic Mt. Bates – the highest point on the island to Captain Cook Monument. It stands at the spot where Captain James Cook and his officers landed in 1774 – and has spectacular views of the coastline. At the end of the walks, we all meet up on the clifftop for a delicious breakfast barbecue. (These walks are not recommended for anyone with medical conditions)

This tour is also flexible – if you would prefer to sleep in and skip the bush walk, but would like to have breakfast on the clifftop, you can join the walkers at Captain Cook Monument and share in the festivities.

OPTIONAL: Lantern Ghost Tour with Dinner – $90 per person
Want to hear some spooky stories, based on the history of Norfolk Island? The Norfolk Island Ghost Tour involves a dinner and lantern walk, while listening to talks and stories that will delight you, make you sad and send shivers down your spine! The dinner will be held in a beautiful, historic Georgian Building – while the lantern walk takes you through the historic Kingston Ruins.

Day 7: Sunday 12 June 2022 – Murder Mystery Dinner
Day at leisure to explore the island in your included hire car.

Our final evening – join us for Murder Mystery Dinner. Enjoy a 3 course meal fit for the commandants whilst the mystery unfolds… Meet the Commandant, Clergyman and Convicts of this period. Includes true characters from the second settlement. Audience participation is required for a Guaranteed great, fun night out! Solve the mystery and win a prize!!

Day 8: Monday 13 June 2022 – Depart
Morning at leisure then transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
