A day that is precious to Norfolk Islander’s hearts is Anniversary Day, otherwise known as Bounty Day. Each year on the 8th of June a celebration takes place in remembrance of the day their Ancestors arrived from Pitcairn Island.. come and join us on this small group tour to discover the Bounty Mutineer descendants as they re-enact the landing of their forbearers. The landing takes place at the Kingston Pier, the oldest pier in the Southern Hemisphere.
Depart Sydney on your flight to Norfolk Island. On arrival you are met and transferred to the Seaview Norfolk Island Resort for 7 nights’ accommodation.
Day 2: 07 June 2021 – At Leisure
This morning you can discover the pace of Norfolk at your leisure. You may like to try some optional activities (own expense) including Glass Bottom Boat Trips, Convict Kingston Tour, Lantern Lit Ghost Tour or enjoy some hiking around the island.
Day 3: 08 June 2021 – Bounty Day
This morning you will join the Bounty Mutineer descendants as they enact the landing of their forbearers. The landing takes place at the Kingston Pier, the oldest pier in the Southern Hemisphere.
Follow the procession of the Bounty Mutineers descendants who will be dressed in period costume to the Cenotaph to pay respects to fallen heroes where hymns are sung.
Then it is onto the Cemetery where wreaths are laid, local hymns and the Pitcairn Anthem, (Norfolk Island’s national anthem) are sung. The Bounty Mutineer descendants then make their way to the All Saints Church for the judging of the best dressed families.
You can observe the tradition of the children of the Bounty Mutineers descendants rolling down the Government House hill. Then it’s off to morning tea followed by a traditional Island picnic lunch.
Day 4: 09 June 2021 – Discover Norfolk Tour, Trial of 15 & Commandant’s Dinner
Enjoy this informative tour to Discover Norfolk Island and introduce you to the beauty and diversity of our Island paradise.
Then on to the Trial of 15. You are an eyewitness to a courtroom drama as 15 extraordinary characters’ step on stage to expose Norfolk’s colourful and turbulent past. The testimony of those on trial reveals the story of Norfolk Island, Polynesian visitation, European discovery, convict misery & arrival of the Pitcairn Islanders.
This successful show has been running for over 10 years. That evening there is a fun Commandant’s dinner theatre showcasing Norfolk history. See how the Commandants and their families adapted to life in a Norfolk Island penal colony, recreating a little piece of England in the Pacific. Enjoy a 3-course dinner of traditional English fare.
Day 5: 10 June 2021 – Bushwalk & Island Feast
Walk through diverse habitats from rainforest to clifftops, between enormous pines and white-woods, surrounded by seabirds. Enjoy a taste of Norfolk at a beekeepers’ home where you will view flow hives, learn about the fascinating local honeybees, and view their flight path to their hives. Next stop will be a beef and dairy farm to learn about supplying milk to make local cheese & milk.
Last visit will be a cooking demonstration to learn about the traditional Island way of cooking by our Tahitian foremothers. You then enjoy an island feast. The beautifully set tables will delight you with the most glamorous picnic you will ever attend! Scrumptiously fresh, local fish is prepared the local way and accompanied with a range of seasonal island dishes including those passed down from the Polynesian ancestors. Our feast kicks off with entertainment, by a local singer and Tahitian-style dancers to set the island scene.
Day 6: 11 June 2021 – Colleen McCullough Home Tour & Progressive Dinner
This morning depart on a tour to discover the history of world renowned author Colleen McCullough and in the evening, enjoy a Progressive Dinner, the perfect way to get a taste of the real Norfolk lifestyle.
Day 7: 12 June 2021 – 1856 The Untold Story & Time at Leisure
On 8 June 1856 a total of 194 people, descendants from the Bounty, arrived on Norfolk Island from Pitcairn Island aboard the Morayshire. This consisted of 40 men, 47 women, 54 boys, and 53 girls. They arrived in cold, wet blustery conditions. Few had ever been to sea before, they were seasick, homesick and heartsick. The journey of 6,000 km took 5 weeks. They arrived to a recently abandoned penal settlement set aside for the ‘worst of the worst’ it was full of ghosts and memories. The 1856 untold story will follow their journey in the World Heritage Listed Kingston area. Recount stories of the families, where they lived and how they adapted to their new life on Norfolk Island. This 1-hour tour is very evocative.
Day 8: 13 June 2021 – Depart
Morning at leisure then transfer to the airport for your departure flight. Arrive in the afternoon in Sydney for the end of the tour.
