Itinerary

Day 1: Wednesday, 24 March 2021 – Adelaide
On arrival into Adelaide you will be met by your Guide and transferred to your luxury accommodation in the heart of the city for the start of your Discover Southern Australia tour.

Adelaide is a captivating classic Australian city. A city of churches, the food and wine capital of Australia has a lot of sandstone homes and cottages with sweeping gardens and greenbelts. On the short orientation tour of the city, you will see many of the lovely boulevards such as King William Street and North Terrace with the State Library, Art Gallery and Parliament House. The River Torrens and the Botanic Gardens are also lovely areas of this ‘Festival’ City.

Majestic Roof Garden Hotel is situated in the fashionable East End of Adelaide, close to bars, restaurants and shopping. Guests have access to the rooftop garden with panoramic views of the Adelaide Hills and East End. The rooms at The Majestic Roof Garden feature modern bathrooms, luxurious king beds, full minibar and free Wi-Fi. 24-hour room service and 24-hour front desk are available. Facilities include fitness room, in-house restaurant and on-site secure parking. It is a 10-minute walk from the Art Gallery, Adelaide University and Museum.

Day 2: Thursday, 25 March 2021 – Adelaide Hills and Hahndorf (B, L)
Meet your representative and depart on your full day tour of the Adelaide Hills & Hahndorf. Head to Mt Lofty Summit and take in the vista of the city of Adelaide. Visit Woodside Cheese for a tasting. (Make sure to taste their award-winning cow and goat milk cheese!) For those with a sweet tooth, Melba’s Chocolate Factory is sure to please. See the array of delicious chocolate and candy and take the opportunity to purchase any treats before heading to the first wine tasting.

Next, visit two of the Adelaide Hills’ popular wineries and discover the history of the area as well as get the opportunity to taste some of their wines. Enjoy a two-course pub lunch with a complimentary beer or wine in the German town of Hahndorf. There will be some time to explore the many art galleries, museums, cafes and boutique shops. Enjoy a quick stop at Beerenberg Farm Shop, famous for their jams, jellies and dessert sauces before you continue to the final winery for the day for a wine tasting.

Your tour will conclude at your accommodation.

Day 3: Friday, 26 March 2021 – Adelaide – Mannum – PS Murray Princess (B, D)
This morning following breakfast, check out of your hotel and depart on a guided sightseeing tour of Adelaide before transferring in the afternoon to Mannum to commence your 3 night Discovery Cruise on board the PS Murray Princess.

Indulge in a long weekend where you’ll discover the beautiful lower riverlands, between Walker Flat and Murray Bridge aboard this historic paddlewheeler. You’ll cruise through spectacular countryside and enjoy the great variety of flora and fauna. Take a nature walk, get up close to the river birdlife on board the ‘Dragon-Fly’ flat-bottomed boat, visit the township of Murray Bridge and learn about the food and wine of this famous region.

Depart Mannum, the birthplace of the Murray River trade and communication at 16:30 and head downriver while you enjoy a delicious Welcome Dinner. As you cruise under floodlight to your overnight mooring at Mundurra, you may see nocturnal wildlife on the riverbank. Watch for kangaroos, hairy-nosed wombats, tortoises, egrets and many other species.

Day 4: Saturday, 27 March 2021 – PS Murray Princess (B, L, D)
After a hearty breakfast, depart on a wildlife tour at Monarto Safari Park.

Return to your boat for lunch, then move to the Sturt Dining Room for a special presentation on the bounty of food and wine produced in the Riverland. This afternoon, continue your journey upriver and moor at Salt Bush Flat. After dinner, enjoy being entertained by the talented crew.

Day 5: Sunday, 28 March 2021 – PS Murray Princess (B, L, D)
This morning following breakfast, join a guided nature walk where your guide will share the secrets of the local flora and fauna. It’s a great way to get in a little exercise before the PS Murray Princess departs and cruises downriver. Near Fromms Landing, turn and head downriver to River View Lodge near Piggy Flat where your discovery vessel awaits for your wildlife tour. Travelling in small, personalised groups, explore the maze of the river and the birdlife is amazing. Watch for darters, herons and egrets feeding along the river’s muddy edges.

The afternoon offers a choice of bocce or fishing challenges before joining the Captain and Officers for the Farewell Dinner and Dance. Be sure to dress up!

Day 6: Monday, 29 March 2021 – Mannum – Barossa Valley (B, L)
This morning following breakfast, dock back at Mannum Wharf at 9:30am, bid a fond farewell to the PS Murray Princess and discover Australia’s richest and best-known wine making region on a full day Barossa Valley tour.

Depart Mannum by coach to the famous Barossa, the beautiful ‘valley of the vine’ and the source of about a quarter of Australia’s world-renowned wines. You will visit Jacob’s Creek Visitor Centre, Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop, enjoy a 2-course lunch at Lambert Estate where you’ll have time to take in the views of this popular vineyard. Finally, visit Gully Gardens at Angaston, a local producer of dried fruits and confectionery before your coach transfers you to your accommodation for the evening.

Day 7: Tuesday, 30 March 2021 – Barossa – Adelaide (B, L, D)

Depart mid-morning from Adelaide Parklands Terminal platform and soon find yourself gazing at the remarkable rock formations of the Flinders Ranges. The rocky scenery gives way to outback scrub as you make your way to Broken Hill in the early evening. With its harsh arid landscape – often featured in cinema for its unforgiving, lunar-like appearance – Broken Hill offers a range of fascinating Off Train Excursions that highlight and celebrate how industrious locals have adapted to their incredible outback home.

Day 8: Wednesday, 31 March 2021 – Indian Pacific – Sydney (B, L)
This morning awaken to the splendour of the Blue Mountains. Disembark the train and marvel at the expansive views and natural surrounds. Take a walk through the eucalypt forests or take the cable car for a bird’s-eye view of this World Heritage listed landscape before completing your journey via dedicated NSW rail service (hosted by Great Southern Rail staff) into Sydney Central Station. Alternatively, stay on board to travel directly to Sydney.
