5 Day Guided Journey


This 5 day discovery has us exploring the lush farming district of Gloucester and surrounds as well as the pristine wilderness that is the magnificent and ancient world heritage listed Gondwana Rainforest region of Barrington Tops. Quaint country towns, meandering rivers and fresh mountain air will delight you in this little-visited part of New South Wales. Our discovery concludes with a 2 night stay in the Hunter Valley Wine Region where we indulge in fine wines and local produce.

Special inclusion: Visit to The Aussie Ark. Established in 2011 this incredibly unique property is located high above the beautiful Barrington Tops and is dedicated to saving the iconic Tasmanian Devil from extinction as well as creating a long term future for a range of threatened Australian Species.

Day 1: Monday, Sydney – Gloucester (BL)
Departing Sydney at approximately 8.00am we head North towards Gloucester. Our first stop is at the Hunter Region Botanic Gardens where we have time to explore the gardens and enjoy morning tea refreshments. Continuing North towards the Bucketts Way, we arrive at the Farmers Wife Distillery. Created on their farm, this boutique hand crafted gin is a homage to the tradition of Gin Making and the native flavours of Australia and we will enjoy gin tasting and a relaxed lunch in this unique venue. After lunch we’ll have time to wander the historic village of Stroud before making our way to Gloucester to enjoy one of the short walks in the town, see the oldest remaining ‘Homestead’, have a chance to explore the town centre, then settle in to our accommodation. Dinner tonight at a local restaurant is at own expense.
Accommodation Gloucester: The Gloucester Country Lodge x 2 nights

Day 2: Tuesday, Gloucester (BLD)
Today is spent exploring the astonishing diversity that is the Gloucester Tops. Combining a series of walks, you’ll wander through open snow gum and sub-alpine woodland as well as cool temperate rainforest. This landscape is part of the Gondwana Rainforest of Australia and is millions of years old. Keep your eye out for swamp wallabies and grey kangaroos and in the summer season, the flora is spectacular. Lunch will be picnic style today before returning to our accommodation mid-afternoon. Time to relax and freshen up before we head out for a late afternoon tour of the Hill View Herb Farm – a farm gate property offering a wide range of fresh culinary and medicinal herbs to smell, taste and touch. We will enjoy a delightful dinner in this picturesque setting. (Minimum of 6 required for Dinner at Herb Farm). Less than 6 Dinner will be in a local restaurant after visit to the Herb Farm.

Day 3: Wednesday, Barrington Tops and the Aussie Ark (BL)
An early start today as we head out of Gloucester and ascend the stunning Barrington Tops to our destination – the Aussie Ark. Established in 2011 this incredibly unique property is located high above the beautiful Barrington Tops and is dedicated to saving the iconic Tasmanian Devil from extinction as well as creating a long term future for a range of threatened Australian Species. On arrival we are met by one of the Ark Rangers and enjoy an unforgettable 2.5 hour guided “Devils in the Wild” tour. You will be privy to enter a huge free-range enclosure and experience a rare opportunity to get up and close and personal in the Tasmanian Devil’s natural enclosure. Departing from the Ark we will enjoy a picnic lunch beside the Manning River and then enjoy a series of short walks and lookout stops designed to immerse you in the ancient Antarctic Beech forest. We then move West, off the Tops and through the scenic Upper Hunter Valley to arrive into the Hunter Valley early evening. Dinner reservations will be made for you at the resort’s restaurant. Dinner not included and at own expense.

Day 4: Hunter Valley (BL)
As yesterday was a busy day, this morning we have a relaxed start. 180 years young, the Hunter Valley is Australia’s oldest and best-known wine region and is soaked in history. It’s a dynamic and fascinating area that brims with over 150 top class wineries, 65 indulgent restaurants as well as gourmet produce and boutique breweries. Our first visit this morning is at the award winning Leogate Estate. This opulent cellar door is the perfect place to enjoy that unique taste which only the Hunter Valley and their award-winning wines can provide. The Brokenback Vineyard was planted in the late 1960s by one of Australia’s wine industry legends Len Evans and we will enjoy personalised tasting (your choice) of 6 wines with individual serving of Cheddar Cheese, Lavosh and Relish to accompany.

Our next stop is at The Wine House, a one stop cellar door and restaurant showcasing over 40 wines from a range of boutique winemakers. From traditional varieties to new and emerging, there is always an outstanding line up of wines on tasting. Taking a seat at the bar, your host will take you on a relaxed journey through a range of fantastic wines, personalised to your tastes. On conclusion of our tasting we will enjoy a delicious grazing board lunch featuring a wide variety of local produce with 1 glass of Beer or wine per person. After lunch we visit Tulloch Wines where we will enjoy a delightful Wine & Chocolate Experience, a foray into the world of “degustation” that is easy to reproduce at home or with friends. You will experience the indulgence of Hunter Valley made artisan chocolate as you partner each one with the mouth-watering flavours of Tulloch Wines.

Return to the Resort late afternoon with time at leisure to relax with dinner own expense in the resort’s restaurant.

Day 5: Hunter Valley – Pearl Farm – Sydney (BL)
An early breakfast this morning as we depart from the Hunter Valley by 8.30am. Travelling south via the freeway, our destination is NSW’s only pearl farm. Established in 2003, it has only now for the first time in 15 years opened its doors to allow a unique insight into the culture of Pearl Farming. Akoya Pearls from Broken Bay are world famous for their very high lustre and unique colours and this is an extremely rare chance to get hands-on with a portion of the harvest of pearls from both WA and NSW. This unique 2 hour experience will allow you to meet the people behind the pearls as they share their expertise with passion as you delve into this unique and Australian industry. You will enjoy an introduction by your Pearl Farm guide before boarding our tour vessel and cruising to the oyster farm. During our cruise on this stunning waterway, you will hear about Australia’s pearling pioneers and the link to Sydney’s 150 yearold Rock Oyster Industry. You will witness a pearl harvest and learn about farming techniques used. We then return to shore where, at the land-based operations, you will learn the specialised art of pearl grading and valuing.

We then leave the Pearl Farm behind and enjoy a short scenic drive to our lunch venue. Saddles is a dining venue inspired by its surrounding bush landscape. The 10 hectare property situated in Mount White with a name that takes inspiration from the craftsmanship of Heath Harris, an artisan saddler. Here we have a 2 course lunch including tea/coffee. Beverages not included and are at guests own expense. On conclusion of lunch, we commence our return drive to Sydney to arrive back at approximately 4.30pm.

Our policy is that all solo travellers must pay the single supplement. If at the time of departure there is another single that has requested to share, we will then refund the single supplement to both guests. We must wait until the tour has departed as circumstances can change with new bookings, cancellations etc.

TRAVEL INSURANCE is strongly recommended.

GENERAL CONDITIONS: These tours may involve travel in remote areas and the operator reserves the right to alter itineraries or accommodation as necessitated by weather, road and other operational conditions prevailing at the time each tour takes place.

WHAT TO BRING: Casual clothes, including warm gear, comfortable flat walking shoes or boots, a jacket, a hat, and sunscreen, toilet requirements and a torch. One small suitcase or bag. Light hand-luggage can accompany you inside the vehicle eg. cameras, day-bags, valuables etc.

This Gondwana Rainforest & Barrington Tops tour has been costed to operate with a minimum number of 8 Guests. We endeavour to operate all trips if being booked as an FIT Scheduled departure, however we reserve the right to cancel if this minimum number requirement is not met. Level of Fitness Required – Medium
Whilst this Gondwana Rainforest & Barrington Tops tour is not physically demanding it does include nature walks in National Parks. There will be times where you will be required to navigate uneven tracks, inclines/descents on walks and all participants are required to be able to walk unaided and will not need any foreseen assistance throughout the journey. For all clients to fully enjoy this travel experience, excellent health and mobility is required by all.
