The migration, is for which the Serengeti is perhaps most famous. Over a million wildebeest and about 200,000 zebras flow south from the northern hills to the southern plains for the short rains every October and November, and then swirl west and north after the long rains in April, May and June. So strong is the ancient instinct to move that no drought, gorge or crocodile infested river can hold them back.

Ngorongoro Crater has the unparalleled beauty of one of the world’s most unchanged wildlife sanctuaries. The main feature is the Ngorongoro Crater itself, the world’s largest inactive, intact, and unfilled volcanic crater, which formed when a large volcano exploded and collapsed on itself two to three million years ago. Wildlife include most of the animal species found in East Africa – Approx 25,000 large animals, mostly ungulates. Large animals in the crater include the black rhinoceros and the hippopotamus. There also are many other ungulates: the wildebeest, Burchell’s zebra, the common eland, and Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelles.

The safari visits Lake Manyara, which is a shallow lake in Tanzania. Said by Ernest Hemingway to be the “loveliest [lake] … in Africa,” it is also the home of a diverse set of landscapes and wildlife.
