This is 8 days for rediscovering your soul in the Kenyan wilderness. You’ll fly to the highlands of northern Kenya, see the indigenous animals such as rhinoceros, relax in luxury tented camps and if you wish, take part in all manner of outdoor activities from trekking to camel safaris, even fly-camping deep in the bush. Then you’ll go to Kenya’s world-famous Maasai Mara and take part in spectacular game drives before spending your last night in the legendary Giraffe Manor.

Days 1/2/3: Samburu

Transfer by air, from Nairobi to Samburu, where you will be met on arrival and taken to the lodge in time for a late lunch.

Situated on the high banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, Sasaab commands breathtaking views across the arid landscape of the Northern Frontier. Sasaab’s design is inspired from Moroccan and Swahili style. Airy rooms, enormous bathrooms and secluded plunge pool offer a cooling relief from the African heat. You are welcomed on arrival in the lounge area with a refreshing drink. A safari in Samburu land is vastly different to that found in any other part of Kenya. The Samburu Special Five (Grevy’s Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Somali Ostrich Gerenuk and Beisa Oryx) are found in the area. Gain knowledge on the Samburu traditions on our fascinating cultural trips. Explore the great outdoors in our fly camps, take a ride on a camel or just relax and unwind at the luxurious Spa.

Accommodation: Sasaab
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

The camp offers a traditional safari-under-canvas experience. Having started as a mobile safari operation, the true sense of an opulent mobile safari operation still exists in the camp, and offers a taste of early pioneering days. Each of the tents is spacious, with olive wood beds and en suite canvas bathrooms that have flushing toilets and hot showers. Outside each tent is a private hammock, perfect for relaxing and afternoon siestas. Explore the Masai Mara on our spectacular game drives, arranged early in the morning and late in the evening when the animals are most active. Or book a bush lunch, take some binoculars and go further afield to find the wildlife in some of the most remote corners of the Masai Mara. Play volleyball in the river bed or just relax and enjoy the view from the hammock outside your tents. We can also arrange an evening drive accompanied by sundowners — a nice way to end the day.

Days 4/5/6: Masai Mara

After breakfast, you will be driven to Nanyuki to catch your flight to the Masai Mara and then head straight to Sala’s Camp, with a small game drive en route.

Sala’s Camp is situated in the relatively unvisited southern area of the Mara, very near the border of the Serengeti, Tanzania. Here the great herds of wildebeest first migrate into Kenya, at the begining of July each year, in search of better grazing.

Sala’s Camp
Sala’s Camp is a tented camp that combines tradition with comfort and it’s a model of understated, intimate luxury. Situated in the southern, wilder corner of Kenya’s mighty Maasai Mara game reserve close to the confluence of the Sand and Keekerok Rivers – an idyllic geographical feature that attracts teeming wildlife.

With just seven tented rooms, Sala’s Camp first hosted guests in 2004, and it has become justly renowned for combining an authentic safari experience with friendliness, hospitality and fine dining. Typically, after a day’s excursion, you’ll return to meet up for sundowners by the campfire before enjoying dinner with your companions on a long dining table beneath the stars.

Sala’s Camp location is a big draw. So close to Tanzania that guests can enjoy wonderful views of the Serengeti National Park over the border, it’s in a prime position for the legendary annual migration of wildebeest, which thunders by from June to September each year. Sala’s Camp also offers the best of the Maasai Mara’s wildlife and birdlife all year round. Our knowledgeable guides help you interpret this fascinating landscape as well as point out its flora and fauna.

Day 7: Giraffe Manor

After breakfast, transfer to the airstrip for your flight back to Nairobi’s Wilson Airport. On arrival, you will be taken to Giraffe Manor in time for lunch. Giraffe Manor is set in 12 acres of private land, within 140 acres of an indigenous forest and only 20 kilometres from Nairobi city centre.

Accommodation: Giraffe Manor
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Giraffe Manor
Using 1930s grandeur, Giraffe Manor is an exclusive boutique hotel, reminiscent of the early days of Europeans in East Africa. Six en suite bedrooms with contemporary touches, as well as attention to detail, offer a remarkable stay. The sanctuary surrounding the manor is home to Rothschild Giraffes who frequently visit the hotel in order to assess any newcomers. Our large verandah and terrace allow our guests the opportunity to get very close to these animals and to feed them by hand. The giraffes are completely wild, making this an experience unlike any other in the world.

We invite you to enjoy a walk in the sanctuary and visit the Giraffe Centre located within the Manor grounds. Or you could take a trip to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and see orphaned elephants and rhinos. You could also visit the Karen Blixen Museum or purchase gifts to take home from our diverse local designers and artisans.

Day 8: Farewell Kenya!

After breakfast at Giraffe Manor, you will be returned to the International Airport for you flight back home.
