Tanzania Ban Plastic Bags

From 1 June 2019, plastic bags, regardless of thickness, will be prohibited from being imported, exported, sold and supplied in Tanzania. Visitors are advised to avoid carrying plastic bags or items in plastic bags in suitcases or hand luggage. ‘Ziploc bags’ used to carry toiletries will be permitted but must remain in the permanent possession of visitors and not be disposed in the country. Tanzania now joins other African countries such as Kenya, Rwanda, Mauritania, Morocco and Botswana, all of which have a total ban of plastic bags already in place.
