Itinerary

Days 1, 2 & 3 -Sasaab, Samburu

Your journey begins with a scenic flight from Nairobi to the rugged, untamed beauty of Samburu, a land defined by its dramatic landscapes and unique wildlife. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to Sasaab Lodge, where a late lunch awaits, offering the perfect introduction to the tranquil luxury that defines this extraordinary retreat. Positioned high on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, Sasaab provides sweeping vistas across Kenya’s Northern Frontier, a region known for its stark yet stunning scenery. The lodge’s architecture draws inspiration from Moroccan and Swahili influences, blending seamlessly into the environment while offering guests an oasis of comfort. Expansive, airy rooms with elegant furnishings, large en-suite bathrooms, and secluded plunge pools invite relaxation, providing welcome relief from the African sun.

Beyond the lodge, the Samburu region offers a safari experience unlike any other in Kenya. Distinct from the grassy savannas of the south, this semi-arid land is home to the remarkable Samburu Special Five—Grevy’s Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Somali Ostrich, Gerenuk and Beisa Oryx—species uniquely adapted to the conditions of this dramatic wilderness. Days here are spent exploring the rugged terrain on expertly guided game drives, where the interplay of golden light on the landscape sets the scene for unforgettable wildlife encounters. Cultural immersion is also an integral part of the experience, with opportunities to meet the Samburu people and gain insight into their rich traditions and enduring way of life. Whether observing rare wildlife, marvelling at the stark beauty of the land, or embracing the serenity of Sasaab’s luxurious surroundings, your time in Samburu promises an unforgettable introduction to Kenya’s wild north. Days 4, 5 & 6 -Sala’s Camp, Masai Mara

Your adventure continues as you depart for Nanyuki to board a flight to the legendary Masai Mara, one of Africa’s most celebrated wildlife reserves. Upon arrival, a leisurely game drive will escort you to Sala’s Camp, where the wilderness begins to unfold around you. Nestled in the southern reaches of the Mara, near the Serengeti border in Tanzania, Sala’s Camp offers a quintessential safari-under-canvas experience, blending rustic charm with understated luxury. Each tent is elegantly designed to provide comfort without compromising the authentic bush atmosphere, featuring ensuite canvas bathrooms equipped with flush toilets and steaming hot showers—ensuring a touch of convenience amidst the wild beauty of the reserve.

The Masai Mara is renowned for its extraordinary wildlife encounters, and your time here will be spent exploring its vast plains on expertly guided game drives. Set out in the early mornings and late afternoons when the animals are at their most active, witnessing the raw power and grace of Africa’s big cats, towering elephants, and the endless herds that roam the Mara’s golden landscapes. Depending on the time of year, you may be fortunate enough to witness the famed Great Migration, where thousands of wildebeest and zebra surge across the plains in a breathtaking spectacle of survival and endurance. Between exhilarating safari excursions, relax in the camp’s serene setting, soaking in the sights and sounds of the Mara while savouring delightful meals under a canopy of stars. This leg of the journey promises an immersive and unforgettable experience in one of Africa’s most iconic wildernesses. (BLD)

Day 7 -Giraffe Manor, Nairobi

On your final day, you will take a flight to Wilson Airport before continuing to the enchanting Giraffe Manor, an exclusive boutique hotel that evokes the romance and elegance of East Africa’s early colonial days. Nestled within 12 acres of private land and surrounded by 140 acres of indigenous forest, Giraffe Manor offers a truly unique experience where luxury meets conservation.

The manor’s most famous residents, the endangered Rothschild Giraffes, freely roam the grounds and frequently make their way to the hotel’s windows and terraces, curiously peering in and eagerly accepting treats from guests. The intimate interactions with these graceful creatures create a truly magical atmosphere, making Giraffe Manor one of the most sought-after stays in Nairobi. Guests can further explore the sanctuary on a peaceful walk through its lush surroundings or visit the nearby Giraffe Centre, where conservation efforts to protect the Rothschild Giraffes are showcased.

Whether enjoying a leisurely breakfast with a giraffe curiously poking its head through the window, relaxing in the elegant interiors of the manor, or strolling through the tranquil forest, your stay at Giraffe Manor is bound to be an unforgettable conclusion to your East African journey. (BLD)
