Ultimate Wilderness Experience
5 Day Small Escorted Group
13-17 September 2022
Surrounded by wetlands and savannah woodlands, Bamurru Plains is often likened to the Okavango Delta of Botswana. Come and join us on safari to discover the beauty of the Australian Top End.
The wildlife on show at Bamurru Plains is some of the most impressive in Australia, and our guides will reveal it to you on fascinating excursions across the property. Bamurru has over 300 square kilometres of private concession to be explored by just a few lucky guests. So large is the property that there are four distinct habitats – floodplains and wetlands full of magpie geese and big crocs; stunning melaleuca forests, savannah woodlands where you might bump into brumbies, buffalo, dingos and wallabies; and finally a riverine environment where the silver flashes of fish or sunbathing crocs will catch your eye as you cruise slowly by. Our expert field guides are the key to unlocking Bamurru’s wild secrets when you explore the property via airboat, open top safari drive, walks, quad bikes and more.
Day 1: 13 September 2022 – Darwin
Meet with your fellow travellers in Darwin for an overnight stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton Darwin Esplanade. At 5pm today we will depart on a 3 hours Champagne Sunset Cruise including Tapas/BBQ dinner – great opportunity to get to know each other.
Feel the wind and revel in the silence as we cut the motors and set the sails for an unforgettable 3 hour tropical sunset cruise on the magnificent Darwin Harbour. Authentic sailing aboard Sundancer, a 50ft ocean-going luxury catamaran designed for ultimate enjoyment and safety in tropical waters – a truly genuine sailing experience aboard a spacious comfortable vessel. With over 100 square metres of deck space there’s plenty of room to spread out in the shade of the sails, or if our warm weather gets too much retreat to the fully air-conditioned saloon- complete with espresso coffee machine! Includes Sparkling Wine & delicious tapas/bbq dinner served throughout the evening. BYO other drinks, plenty of icy-cold eskies on board.
Day 2: 14 September 2022 – Bamurru Plains
After breakfast this morning we transfer to the airport for our scenic air charter to Bamurru Plains – our home for the next 3 nights.
It’s time to immerse yourself in an extraordinary bush experience of the coastal floodplains of Australia’s Top End. Bamurru Plains is a safari lodge with exclusive access to 300 km of floodplains and savanna woodland on the Mary River, on the edge of Kakadu National Park. A profusion of bird and wildlife are at the doorstep of this unique bush experience that exudes ‘Wild Bush Luxury’ and brings a touch of style to the discovery of a remote and beautiful wilderness.
Guests sleep safely inside 10 rustic-chic bungalow tents—which have doors, not zippers—decked out with plush beds and spacious bathrooms. Close-to-nature intimacy is provided by mesh walls—inhabitants can see out, but the outside cannot see in—allowing the sounds of the wild to permeate each tent. A connection to the land is heightened by the lack of technology: no TVs, no cell reception, no Wi-Fi.” All meals and drinks are included during your stay.
Days 3 & 4: 15 and 16 September 2022 – Bamurru Plains
Here you’ll experience a beautiful wilderness region and its prolific wildlife and birdlife. At night no other lights shine out; the only sound is the deep chorus of the Australian bush – various frog species, barking owls and the occasional dingo. The fragile ecosystem remains one of the world’s most beautiful wilderness areas with its vast diversity of animals and birds. Nearby is Kakadu, a region of exceptional natural beauty and unique biodiversity, and one of only a few World Heritage areas listed for both its cultural and its natural values. Kakadu National Park is managed jointly by its Aboriginal traditional owners and the Director of National Parks. Guests enjoy exclusive access to Bamurru’s miles of the Sampan River, coast and Mary River Floodplain system with daily guided wilderness activities such as croc-spotting river cruises, 4WD safaris, wildlife viewing or walking safaris.
Optional full day excursion to Kakadu National Park – on request – $495 per person
